Ohanaeze Ndigbo has moved to oppose an alleged decision by the Federal Government
Ohanaeze Ndigbo has moved to oppose an alleged decision by the Federal Government to initiate a judicial process to officially declare the Biafra indigenous people a terrorist group.
Reports have stated that the Federal Government has ordered the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to initiate a process before the courts to ban the IPOB.
But in its response in a statement by its president, Nnia Nwodo, on Tuesday, Ohanaeze warned the Nigerian courts not to make cheap tools to use against IPOB. He said that the courts should not undermine the democratic process of the nation by giving frivolous orders against IPOB.
Nwodo alleged that Ohanaeze was aware that the AGF was secretly approaching the courts to obtain an order to designate IPOB as a terrorist group.
According to him, this movement is not only illegal, but aims to continue the harassment and intimidation of young Igbo who pursue their fundamental human rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Ohanaeze said he has already written letters to the courts to take care of the wrong moves he says has a tendency to worsen already worn-out nerves, and frustrate genuine efforts by the apex body Igbo and other leaders to bring peace to the earth .
