The Kiss!

Being late for a meeting, you need to run, "he said, as he hung his coat over his shoulder and left the house. As he walked away, she ran down the stairs two at a time. 'Wait, wait,' he said, but he was gone.

His mouth wrinkled like used wrapping paper. "He forgot to kiss me goodbye," he whispered in a voice that trembled under the weight of his pain. She called him, 'You left without giving me a kiss,' said accuser. "I'm sorry, honey," he said, his voice contrite. "It's fine," she said, trying to grow when she cut the call.

He swallowed his breakfast with a sullen air, put on his shoes, picked up his school bag and started walking through the door, his shoulders drooping. As he walked down the steps, the car stopped in front of the house. He got out of the car. She ran to him, her entire face lit up like a Christmas tree.

"I'm sorry, I forgot," he said, as he lifted her up and hugged her. She did not say anything. His jaw hurt from the smile.

Fifteen years later, no one would remember that he was late for a meeting, but a girl would never forget that her father drove all the way back home just to say goodbye to her.
